Light Bulb Illustration Experience God's Love and Forgiveness. (2 of 4)

Kevin:
The abundant life promised by our Lord is actually pretty foreign to many Christians. Instead, many consider it to be a burden or a chore. They go through their Christian life, hoping at last for relief when they go to heaven. But you know Jesus never intended us to live an unproductive, defeated life. So what’s the problem?

Stacey:
And that’s a very good question Stacey. In order to find the answer, we have to know what the problem is. Well, the Bible tells us there are three different kinds of people. The Natural man, the Spiritual man, and the Carnal or Worldly man. In order to make this a little more clear, we’re going to let these three light bulbs represent those three kinds of people.

This bulb represents the Spiritual person. That would be someone who has given their life to Christ and is directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Kevin:
In 1 Corinthians 2:14, the Bible says, "A natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him." (1 Corinthians 2:14, NAS95) The Natural person's life is self-directed. That means he honors himself and leaves God outside of his life, resulting in a life of confusion and conflict.

Stacey:
This bulb represents the Spiritual person. That would be someone who has given their life to Christ and is directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Kevin:
1 Corinthians 2:15 says, "The spiritual person has access to everything God's Spirit is doing...We have the mind of Christ." (1 Corinthians 2:15, NIV) For the Spiritual person, Christ is his leader. And when he allows his life to be directed by Christ, his interests and desires come into agreement with God's plan resulting in an amazing friendship with God.

Kevin:
This light bulb represents the Worldly or Carnal person. That’s the one who has given their life to Christ, but they’re trying to live their life in their own strength. As a result, the light goes on and off in their life and there are all kinds of problems.

Student:
The Carnal person has decided he doesn’t want to let Christ be the leader of his life and he’s making all the choices and decisions himself - generally resulting in the same kind of conflict and frustration that the Natural person experiences. But God has a much better way for us to live.

Q: How do we know Jesus really existed?

A: By examining the evidence. No reputable scholar really doubts Jesus' existence. Even his enemies never attempted to dismiss him as a myth. Jesus was a real person whose life and historical impact is irrefutable. In fact, according to leading historians, no one has had a greater impact on our world than Jesus. (read article)
