Kevin:
In this illustration, this light bulb represents the life of someone who is being directed by the Holy Spirit.
Stacey:
Just as the bulb stays lit by being connected to electricity, its power source, so we as Christians get our power and strength by being connected to our power source, the Holy Spirit.
Kevin:
But when we allow sin, represented by this very large butcher knife, when we allow sin to control our life instead of the Holy Spirit, it can cut the connection, and the light goes out.
Stacey:
First, hand me the knife. Okay, that's better. Now just because this bulb isn't lit doesn't mean that it isn't still a light bulb, it is, it's just an ineffective one. Just as we without the power of the Holy Spirit are ineffective, frustrated Christians.
Stacey:
So what's the solution? Well, first John 1:9 tells us. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." So if we confess our sins, and once again ask to be directed by the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit will forgive us, and reconnect us to the source-filling our lives with the brightness and joy of the Holy Spirit.
