Hi, I'm Stacey.
And I'm Kevin, and we're here to talk to you about "how to be filled with the Holy Spirit."
Yes, this is part of a series of what are called transferable concepts. They were written by Dr. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. And you know through many years of ministry, Dr. Bright and his staff discovered that a lot of Christians are living lives of frustration.
The only way to live a vibrant and abundant life that God has for each one of us is when we allow Him to direct us through the Holy Spirit. Are you aware of the Holy Spirit in your life? If not, you can learn how to be filled with Him right now. But first let's find out who the Holy Spirit is and why He came.
And you know, the fact is, if you've placed your trust in Christ, God has forgiven you of your sins. So as we talk today, we're going to show you how you can only experience the incredible love and forgiveness of God when you understand who Jesus Christ is and why He came.
Who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is God. He is not an "it." He is not a divine influence. He is not a fleecy white cloud. He is not a ghost nor a concept. He is God - with all the attributes of deity. He is the third person of the Trinity - co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. There is only one God, but He manifests Himself in three persons, which we call the Trinity.
The Holy Spirit came to glorify Christ and to lead believers into all truth. To convict of sin. On the eve of His crucifixion while still in the Upper Room, the Lord Jesus said to His disciples, "When the Father sends the Comforter instead of me- and by the Comforter he meant the Holy Spirit- He will teach you much as well as remind you of everything I Myself have told you." (John 14:26, TLB). He will convict you of all sin.(John 16:8). "He will guide you in to all truth for He will not be presenting His own ideas. But He will be presenting what I have already told you." (John 16:13)
The Holy Spirit came to enable you to know Christ through the new birth and to give you the power to live and share the abundant life which Jesus promised to all who trust Him. The Holy Spirit inspired holy men of old to write the Holy inspired Scriptures. And only Christians who are filled with the spirit can understand the true meaning of God's Word.
Except for the prayer of confession, we cannot expect God to answer our prayers unless we are walking in the Spirit. And when we witness, no one will respond unless we are controlled by the Holy Spirit. In fact, it is impossible to know Christ apart from the regenerating ministry of the Holy Spirit. It was Jesus of Nazareth, Himself, who said to Nicodemus, a good and godly man, "Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God." (John 3:5, TLB) It is impossible for you to pray, to live a holy life, to witness or to do anything for the Lord Jesus apart from the person of the Holy Spirit of God.
